The Siakumne Tribe is a Native American tribe that has inhabited Central and Northern California for thousands of years. The California Gold Rush era had a devastating effect on the culture, language, heritage and religion of the tribe. The current members of the tribe are descendants of this historical Native American nation. The Siakumne Tribe is dedicated to the preservation and perpetuation of its people's language, culture, history, heritage, religion and spirituality. They are currently pursuing official federal recognition so that its members and future generations have the rights and privileges that they are legally entitled to including housing, health care, elder care, education and a secured land base. There is a direct correlation between a secured land base and the vitality of a tribe, as one does not exist without the other.
Friends of Pata Panaka is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement and preservation of The Siakumne Tribe.
The main goal of Friends of Pata Panaka is to ensure the wellbeing of Siakumne Tribal Members, and to preserve and maintain the Pata Panaka village site for future generations.
